Have bags will travel
With the temperature in DFW hovering around 80 degrees, I'm beginning to get the spring fever travel bug. Between my mom and my friends, there seems to be a lot of traveling going on. Yet none of the plans include me. :-(
Two weeks ago my mother and a friend of hers flew from Seattle to NYC just to go see The Producers on Broadway. Apparently Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane have returned for a limited engagement. While there, they also caught the matinee of Thoroughly Modern Millie. The rest of the time was spent shopping and eating. I didn't get any postcards or souvenirs.
This week, mother and another friend are floating down the Mississippi river on the Mississippi Queen Steamboat. They started in Memphis and are sailing to New Orleans, with stops along the way. The other night I was awoken by the phone. It was mom. She was so excited. She acted like a kid on Christmas morn just dying to tell me all about the trip thus far. I've since gotten two postcards.
Next month, my friends are flying to Vegas. Now mind you, we have made an annual trek to Vegas either in October or November. This year, they are going in April!! Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to go this time of year. My friend (we'll call her Jackie-O , due to the personality she takes on when consuming a certain whiskey) keeps telling me I need to go...who knows, I might win!! I've been going for 4-5 years now and haven't won yet!
So to all of you with big travel plans, have a safe trip. To my friends, I hope you win. To my mother, continue to spend the inheritance like there is no tomorrow! As for me, I'll be tailgating that Amish buggy in Lancaster, PA in July. Oh the smell of horse manure as it bakes on the pavement. ::sigh:: There's always next year.
